Bring your own ideas or use the patterns provided. This class gives you the opportunity to design a project of your choosing. In this 3 day progressive class you will receive lessons in the finer details of building leaded stained glass panels. This course is designed to bring your current skill set to an intermediate level. From patterning to the final cement, learn steps beyond the basic beginner to complete a 400 sq inch panel of your choice. Understand the art of pattern making, the use of proper shears, straight through to your build, solder, cement and frame. Day 1 – Pattern Making Learn how to scale and replicate an accurate cartoon, understanding ‘fit lines’, ‘sight lines’, and ‘glass lines’ including zinc came framing. Create precise pattern pieces and make your glass choices. Day 2 – Cutting & Leading Spend the day cutting your glass with your premade pattern pieces and laying them out on your cartoons. Learn how to stretch lead came and properly utilize lead nippers to cut pieces to size. Specific instruction will be taught on the various ways to nip the came to create proper mitres and connections. Day 3 – Solder, Cement, Frame Finish up leading your panels and then learn how to solder lead joints and the techniques to create a smooth finished look on both sides. Apply cement and whiting then polish up to a final finish ready for mounting into the frames. All materials are provided for this course except for glass.
