INTRO TO ICE DYEING - 2 Evening

Create brilliant patterns on fabric using ice and cold water dyes. Cold water dyes, known as Procion MX, are reliable, brilliant, versatile, and permanent dyes used for plant based fabrics like cotton, linen, bamboo, and rayon. Day 1 - You will learn to mix up the dye stock for this two evening class. Handle and apply dye powder. Ice dyeing techniques will be demonstrated and you will set up your dye "melt' to be unveiled during the second class DAY 2 - Learn how to properly rinse and set your ice dyed fabric. Next steps will be discussed for your continued exploration of this fantastical dyeing method. Each participant will produce 2 fabric swatches 24" x 48" There are no mistakes, just marvellous discoveries. DATES & TIMES Tuesday Nov 5, 6-9pm Thursday Nov 7, 6-8pm YOUR TUTOR Pam Woodward. Pam has worked in theatre, film, and television costuming for over 40 years. She has specialized in textile design techniques including fabric dyeing, painting, surface embellishments, and fabric manipulation. As a costume dyer and decorator, Pam has worked for CBC, The National Ballet of Canada (Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker Suite, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, Firebird ), The Canadian Opera Company (Madame Butterfly, Norma, The Golden Ass, Idomineo), Livent (Phantom of the Opera), and Mirvish Productions (Miss Saigon, Crazy for You, Mama Mia, The Lion King), as well as a number of feature films and made-for-TV movies.
