BOOKBINDING - 2 WOVEN BOOKS
In this workshop, we will explore two forms of handmade books that utilize simple weaving techniques to hold the book together. In the morning session, we will make a Woven Codex. This book uses a ribbon woven in & out of the book pages. The woven codex that has pockets for including or mounting all kinds of your little bits of artwork! It will be a soft cover book – around 8 cm w x 10 cm h. We will be making a small book but this format is easily scaled up! In the afternoon session, we will make the Australian Reverse Piano Hinge Binding. In this book form, you’ll weave a paper accordion through the book pages and use strips of paper to anchor the mountain fold inside the book. This book will be a hard cover sized around 16 cm w x 22 cm h. Both structures use almost no glue, no sewing, and lay flat when open. There will be a lot of opportunities to customize the books with colour choices and both books will be filled with mixed media paper to allow for flexible use afterwards! This workshop is great for beginners and has a lot of creative options for more advanced students. DATES & TIMES SAT April 26th 9:00am to 4:00pm YOUR TUTOR Kari Bronaugh.
